Part of a statue depicting a crouching youth, pieced together by two fragments. The plinth preserves the youth’s legs and the lower part of the coloured himation he was wearing. His toes are lean and although the phalanxes are depicted the toe nails are not.

The similarities in posture and sculptural details between this statue and another one exhibited in the Acropolis Museum (Ακρ. 160) led to the conclusion that both come from the same sculptural composition to which the statue of Athena Ακρ. 142 was also attributed. According to some scholars the complex was a dedication depicting two young men, perhaps heroes, crouching facing each other while playing pessoi or astragaloi (knucklebones) in front of the goddess.

However, other researchers support that this composition, with Athena in the centre flanked by the youths -possibly grooms- placed in the corners, decorated the pediment of a building on the Acropolis. There are those, who also attribute to the same pediment the horse Ακρ. 697 with its fragments Ακρ. 572 and Ακρ. 573, as well as the fragments of a young man leading a horse Ακρ. 571 and Ακρ. 574.
